Danny's Idea of Babysitting

They say you should never substitute the TV for a babysitter. How about a movie camera? We leave Danny alone with the kids for one night and this is what we end up with!

Fall Planting

Lyndsey and I planted bulbs today. It was part of our quality time together. I was the digger, she was the putter inner, always pointy side up, and the filler upper. Can't wait to see what they look like...check back later for pictures if they come up!

I Love Fall

Well fall is here. We have broken out the winter coats and it is chilly in the morning! We actually put blankets on the beds last night. But I do love fall. I love the colors and smells and the cool air. We have been getting apples from friends that went to the apple orchard and have made mom's famous Jewis Apple Cake and today we went to the pumpkin patch. For more cute photos, check out the link to Our Photos.

Jewish Apple Cake
Lynda VonderBrink

Ingredients:
3 cups Unsifted flour
3 tsp Baking powder
2 cups Sugar
4 Eggs
1 cup Oil
2 ½ tsp Vanilla
¼ cup Orange or pineapple juice
2 pounds (5 large or more) pared, sliced or chopped apples
½ cup Sugar
3 tsp Cinnamon

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour and baking powder in a medium bowl. Beat sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla well in a large bowl. Add flour and juice alternately to egg mixture. Beat well. Grease well and flour a large tube pan. Start with a layer or batter and then a layer or apples sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Make 3 layers ending with apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hr, 20 min to 1 hr, 30 min.
After the cake is done, leave it in the pan until cold. It is better if it is not cut until the next day.
Tip: Freezes well.

The Walking Park

We went to a "walking park" today. This is different than a regular park according to my kids. A real park has a playground. This one didn't. This park actually has trees and flowers and paths, fuzzy worms and squirrels. It was a beautiful day.

Goodbye, Dear Friend

They say you can tell a lot about a man by the company they keep, by the people that they surround themselves with, by the family that they raised. Dick Griffin demonstrated this this past week. On the coast of the intercoastal a memorial service was held for him a week ago. Friends and family alike came together to say goodbye to man that had touched them all deeply. Lifelong friends to ones newly made came to celebrate his life and mourn his death. He was a dedicated friend, husband, father, grandfather, boss and coworker. He was a man I am proud to say that I knew. He raised a great man to be my husband and was a great grandfather to my kids. He wore a tux to my wedding and didn't complain all that much. He will be missed greatly and remembered fondly. Dick, Dad, we will miss you tons. Go Dawgs!
